28/06/11-Memories, lessons and interpretation

I love the fact that everyone sees the world through their own eyes. It’s the moment that matters; the feeling can leave a glint in your eye for a lifetime. I suffer from a constant inability to appreciate the moment. Maybe that’s why I fell in love with photography. I bet Anthony Walsh enjoyed this moment and I bet a fair few people would appreciate the view.

12/06/11-Fiji Living Pt 2

The complexities of modern living can frustrate even the most optimistically inclined individual. Money, work, relationships, money; these necessities of our daily existence have an undeniable impact on our decisions and the paths our lives etch on the map of time. After watching ‘Braveheart’ for the umpteenth time last night, it dawned on me just how important freedom really is. It got me thinking about the various and unique forms that a modern notion of freedom may take. In the […]

25/05/11-Tavarua Swell+Published Image

Last week a massive swell made it’s way up from Southern Australia, colliding first with Shipsterns in Tassie, then making it’s way up the east coast of Australia, until finally reaching Fiji. I got a couple of keepers with the sun setting rapidly on Friday afternoon and only one team towing in. One of these images was published by Swellnet (you can view the site here http://www.swellnet.com.au/galleries/waveoftheday?image=543 ) and the following couple of days saw slightly smaller waves with a […]

Fiji Living

I’ve been in Fiji for a little over a week now and with six weeks still to go the probability of scoring some epic waves is very likely. With the reef passes now open to everyone it just means chartering a boat and anyone can surf where only few used to be able to afford too. This has been a controversial topic of late, however the vibe in the water seems to be good and although it can get very […]

27/04/2011-To hell with Bells

The 50th anniversary of the Bells comp was on this past weekend and what a comp it was! I opted for the webcast version of the event as I don’t warrant the necessary “press pass” to get the good position for shots; and watching the other surf photogs getting the good angles doesn’t really appeal to me. So it was beers and the couch for a few solid hours of the good old internet to do what it does best […]

15/03/2011 No surf=Carnage

It’s been a bit of hit and miss on the surf front these last few weeks so I have been directing my attention to some other small events taking place in our world-other than the surf! I love these shots because they really highlight the way in which nature’s creatures continue in their daily struggle for survival, never knowing what’s around the corner. Feel like you’ve been caught in a web lately? Maybe it’s time to get out?  This poor little […]

09/02/2011 Island time

There’s an amazing little Island that my partner and I have been heading to for the past 8 months on weekend escapes from the big smoke and I just can’t get enough of the place. Great people, great vibe and great waves. The below reef is super heavy and ridiculously shallow, but if you make the drop you’re in for a wicked barrel. Here’s some pics that showcase what can go right, what can go wrong and a few things in […]

22/01/11-Excerpts from the road

WELL, this is my first blog with the new and improved website up and running and I couldn’t have done it without the help of the multi-talented Fagan Wilcox (thanks bro!). As I’m currently living in Melbourne the only realistic option for a summer roadie was NZ as it would allow for Chrissy with the family and a long-overdue catch-up with great friends. So we packed the bags and set off for a ten day surfing safari from Wellington to Auckland via surf […]
