The 50th anniversary of the Bells comp was on this past weekend and what a comp it was! I opted for the webcast version of the event as I don’t warrant the necessary “press pass” to get the good position for shots; and watching the other surf photogs getting the good angles doesn’t really appeal to me. So it was beers and the couch for a few solid hours of the good old internet to do what it does best and entertain. I must say I thought Mick was the form surfer of the event, but it came down to wave selection against his old mate Joel, who was making the Bells bowl look like your typical 3 foot beachie and somehow managed to pull a perfect 10 out of the bag on the buzzer.
Anyway, Pro surfing aside, I just purchased a new Canon 500mm F4 lens (wooohooo!) and managed to score a pumping beachie in another area of Vicco that caught the remainder of the Bells swell and threw up some tasty barrels of it’s own. Here’s a few of the pics of the Island Surfboards crew locking in. The barrel sequence is Simon McShane with a GoPro on his wrist and the chap on the Old 7’6 Don is Eli Curry. Enjoy!
