09/02/2011 Island time

There’s an amazing little Island that my partner and I have been heading to for the past 8 months on weekend escapes from the big smoke and I just can’t get enough of the place. Great people, great vibe and great waves. The below reef is super heavy and ridiculously shallow, but if you make the drop you’re in for a wicked barrel. Here’s some pics that showcase what can go right, what can go wrong and a few things in between. They were all taken using a Sigma 15mm fisheye and are all examples of the little things that can go wrong when shooting from the water i.e. waterspots, distance (when shooting with a fisheye the closer to the action the better) and focusing. I still really like the images, and they all serve as a reminder that time, practise and patience are paramount to the surf photography game. Ya just gotta love it!!
